Overview

GudLab ("we", "us", "our") builds open-source software tools. This privacy policy explains how we handle information across our products, including the GudChat browser extension and other GudLab applications.

We are committed to transparency and minimal data collection. Our products are designed to keep your data under your control.

Information we collect

GudChat browser extension

GudChat is a browser side panel that connects to AI providers you configure. Here is what GudChat handles:

  • Chat conversations are stored locally in your browser using an embedded SQLite database. We never transmit or have access to your conversations.
  • API keys you enter for AI providers (OpenAI, Anthropic, Gemini, etc.) are stored locally in your browser's extension storage. We never collect, transmit, or have access to your API keys.
  • Page content that you choose to include as context is sent directly from your browser to your chosen AI provider. We do not intercept, store, or relay this data.
  • Selected text you highlight on web pages is processed locally within the extension and sent directly to your chosen AI provider when you use features like Explain or Summarize.

GudChat does not collect analytics, telemetry, or usage data of any kind. The extension operates entirely between your browser and the AI provider you configure.

GudLab website

When you visit gudlab.com, we may collect:

  • Basic server logs including IP address, browser type, and pages visited. These are retained for security purposes and automatically deleted after 30 days.
  • No cookies are set for tracking purposes. We do not use third-party analytics services.

Other GudLab products

Each GudLab product (GudForm, GudCal, GudDesk, etc.) is self-hostable. When you self-host, all data remains on your infrastructure. We have no access to self-hosted instances.

How we use information

We use the minimal information we collect solely to:

  • Operate and maintain our website and services
  • Respond to your inquiries or support requests
  • Protect against abuse and maintain security

We do not sell, rent, or share your personal information with third parties for marketing purposes.

Third-party AI providers

When using GudChat, your conversations are sent directly to the AI provider you select and configure (e.g., OpenAI, Anthropic, Google Gemini, Mistral, Ollama). Each provider has its own privacy policy and data handling practices. We encourage you to review the privacy policy of your chosen provider:

Local providers like Ollama and LM Studio run entirely on your machine and do not transmit data to external servers.

Data storage and security

GudChat stores all data locally within your browser:

  • Chat history is stored in a local SQLite database within Chrome's extension storage
  • Settings and API keys are stored in Chrome's local storage API
  • No data is stored on our servers

You can delete all stored data at any time by removing the extension or clearing its data through Chrome's extension management page.

Your rights

Since GudChat stores data locally on your device, you have full control over your data at all times. You can:

  • View all stored conversations within the extension
  • Delete individual conversations or all data
  • Export your data by accessing the extension's local storage
  • Remove the extension to delete all associated data

Children's privacy

Our products are not directed to children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children.

Changes to this policy

We may update this privacy policy from time to time. Changes will be posted on this page with an updated revision date. We encourage you to review this policy periodically.
